The Mexico City Grand Prix 2026 runs from October 30 to November 1 at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. The Sunday race starts at 14:00 Mexico City time (UTC−6): 15:00 US Eastern Standard Time and 20:00 UK time/UTC. Below are the session times, a plain-English altitude guide and practical clothing tips.

After Austin, covered in our United States Grand Prix COTA guide, the calendar moves to Mexico City. This guide combines Formula 1’s official timetable with the organizer’s visitor rules and general fan-apparel advice. It is a desk-researched guide, not a first-hand trackside report. Updated October 26, 2026.

What You Need to Know About the 2026 Mexico City Grand Prix

  • Dates & Circuit: Friday, October 30 to Sunday, November 1, 2026, at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Magdalena Mixhuhca, Mexico City (4.304 km / 2.674 miles, 17 corners).
  • Race distance: 71 laps of the 4.304 km Grand Prix circuit, covering 305.354 km. The stadium section is a distinctive feature; use the official Grand Prix layout when planning your visit.
  • Altitude: Mexico City sits around 2,240 m (7,349 ft) above sea level. Air density varies with weather; the key racing effects are reduced aerodynamic force and more difficult cooling, rather than one fixed percentage for every session.

How Does 2,240-Meter Altitude Affect F1 Cars and Engines?

At more than 2,200 m above sea level, thinner air changes how a car generates aerodynamic force and loses heat. See our Formula 1 beginner’s guide for the basics. The following explains the general physics, not a prediction of which 2026 team will be fastest.

  • Aerodynamics: Lower air density reduces both downforce and drag. Teams need to balance cornering grip against straight-line performance.
  • Cooling: Less air mass passes through cooling ducts, making it harder to remove heat from brakes and power-unit components. Cooling openings and how the car is driven become important.
  • Turbocharging: A turbocharged engine can compensate for thinner air by compressing it, but that puts additional demands on the turbocharger. Mercedes’ technical explanation describes these underlying effects; its 2021 setup examples are historical, not specifications for 2026.

For the correct Grand Prix layout and circuit details, use Formula 1’s Mexico circuit page. The venue has several configurations; a national-circuit map is not interchangeable with the F1 layout.

What to Wear to the Mexico City Grand Prix (Morning Chill vs. High-UV Sun)

Plan an outfit you can adjust during the day: a light base layer, a removable warm layer and comfortable walking shoes. These are general packing suggestions, not a forecast for October 30–November 1. Check the Mexican national weather service close to departure, especially for temperature, rain and sun exposure.

  • Light base layer: A racing polo shirt or lightweight tee can work for the stands or a watch party. Choose fabric and fit for your own comfort rather than assuming every shirt has the same moisture-management properties.
  • Peelable Morning Layer: Bring a zip-up hoodie or quarter-zip pullover for the 9:00 AM metro ride to Ciudad Deportiva, then tie it around your shoulders once FP1 or the drivers’ parade begins. For full cold-weather layering rules, read our dedicated guide on what to wear to an F1 race in cold weather.
  • Sun and rain protection: Pack a cap, sunglasses, sunscreen and a compact rain poncho. The organizer’s security rules allow sunscreen containers up to 100 ml and small umbrellas without pointed tips; pointed umbrellas are prohibited. A poncho avoids obstructing other spectators’ views. Check current bag-size and item rules before packing.

Getting to the circuit and packing for your ticket zone

Start with the gate on your ticket, then choose your transport route. The organizer lists different entrances for different ticket zones, so a map of the circuit alone is not enough. Metro Line 9 serves the area, but you may still have a walk from the station to your assigned gate.

  • Before leaving: Check the ticket zone, entrance and latest opening time in the official access guidance. Do not rely on parking at the venue.
  • Bag size: The organizer lists a maximum of 10 × 15 × 30 cm for bags/backpacks, preferably clear. Check the current permitted-items list for exceptions.
  • Useful small items: Earplugs, sunglasses, a cap, a compact poncho and sunscreen in a container no larger than 100 ml are on the organizer’s allowed list. Leave aerosols and pointed umbrellas at home.
  • Clothing already in your wardrobe: Choose shoes you can walk in comfortably and layers you can remove. New teamwear is optional; prioritise your ticket, route and practical packing.

Frequently asked questions

What time does the 2026 Mexico City Grand Prix start?

The 2026 Mexico City Grand Prix race starts at 14:00 local time (CST, UTC-6) on Sunday, November 1, 2026. That corresponds to 15:00 EST on the US East Coast (after US clocks fall back on November 1) and 20:00 UTC/GMT in the UK.

Why is the altitude at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez so hard on F1 cars?

Mexico City is more than 2,200 m above sea level. Thinner air reduces aerodynamic force and the air mass available for cooling. Turbocharging helps offset the effect on engine power, but increases demands on the turbo system.

Is the Mexico City Grand Prix a Sprint weekend in 2026?

No, the 2026 Mexico City Grand Prix follows the traditional Formula 1 weekend format with Free Practice 1 and 2 on Friday (October 30), Free Practice 3 and Qualifying on Saturday (October 31), and the 71-lap Grand Prix on Sunday (November 1).

What is the best way to get to Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez on race day?

The organizer says it does not offer event parking and recommends public transport or Ticket2Ride. Metro Line 9 serves Velódromo, Ciudad Deportiva and Puebla; choose your route for the gate printed on your ticket. Check the official access guide before travelling. Do not assume one station is the closest for every grandstand.

Is the Mexico City Grand Prix on the F1 2027 calendar?

Yes. Formula 1’s official 2027 calendar lists Mexico City for October 29–31. Our F1 2027 calendar guide covers the wider season. Recheck the official calendar before booking travel.
