Pedro Acosta Sánchez is a Spanish Grand Prix motorcycle racer, born on 25 May 2004 in Mazarrón in the Region of Murcia. He rides the number 37 KTM for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing in MotoGP. He arrived in the world championship in 2021 and won two titles in his first three seasons.

The junior years ran through the Spanish PreMoto3 championship, which he won in 2017 with two races to spare, the FIM CEV Moto3 Junior World Championship, and the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, where he was runner-up in 2019 and champion in 2020.

His Moto3 rookie season in 2021 with Red Bull KTM Ajo was immediate: second on debut in Qatar, then a win in Doha from a pit-lane start, then two more in a row. Six wins and eight podiums made him the youngest Moto3 world champion at 17 years and 166 days, and the first rookie champion in any class since Loris Capirossi in 1990.

Two seasons in Moto2 followed with the same Ajo team. He became the class’s youngest race winner at Mugello in 2022 and took Rookie of the Year, then won the 2023 title with seven victories and a record-equalling fourteen podiums, with two rounds still to run. He moved up to MotoGP with Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 in 2024, took Rookie of the Year again, and has ridden for the factory KTM team since 2025. He is confirmed at Ducati Lenovo Team for 2027 and 2028.

Chapter 01

Pitlane to P1

Sixteen years old and two races into his world championship career, Acosta was sent to the back of the Doha grid with a pit-lane start, a penalty for irresponsible riding in practice. He crossed the line first, beating Darryn Binder by 0.039 seconds after recovering from around nine seconds down on the opening lap. It was the first Moto3 win from a pit-lane start. Five more victories followed across the season and he took the title as a rookie, the youngest champion the class has had and the first rookie champion in any class since Loris Capirossi in 1990.

Chapter 02

Two Titles in Three Years

Acosta stayed with Aki Ajo's KTM squad and stepped up to Moto2 rather than taking an early promotion to the premier class. He won at Mugello in his rookie season to become the class's youngest ever race winner at 18 years and four days, finished fifth overall and took Rookie of the Year. The following season he was untouchable: seven wins, fourteen podiums — equalling the single-season record — eight fastest laps, and the championship settled with two rounds still to run. At 19 years and 172 days he was the youngest Moto2 champion in the class's history.

Chapter 03

The Wait for a Premier-Class Win

Two podiums in his first three MotoGP starts set the tone for 2024, and he finished sixth overall as Rookie of the Year, two points behind Brad Binder. Five more podiums and fourth in the championship followed in 2025 with the factory KTM team. In 2026 he won the opening sprint race in Thailand and left Buriram as the first KTM rider ever to lead the MotoGP world championship. Carpal tunnel surgery on his right wrist after the Dutch TT cost him little: ten days later he finished fourth at the Sachsenring. Thirteen premier-class podiums in, the first win has not come, and he moves to Ducati for 2027.
