Oscar Piastri: Full Biography

Oscar Jack Piastri is an Australian racing driver for McLaren, and the only driver to have won the Formula Renault Eurocup, FIA Formula 3 and FIA Formula 2 championships in three consecutive seasons.

Three Titles, Three Years He took Formula Renault in 2019, Formula 3 in 2020 and Formula 2 in 2021 — the last of those as a rookie, at the first attempt, as no one had done before. He then spent 2022 on the sidelines as Alpine’s reserve before signing for McLaren.

The Rise Two podiums as a rookie in 2023, two wins and fourth in the championship in 2024, and then a 2025 season of seven victories and sixteen podiums — both Australian records — that took the title fight to the final round.

Still Climbing He finished third in 2025 behind his own teammate Lando Norris and Max Verstappen, thirteen points off the championship, and is into his fourth season at McLaren under the 2026 regulations.

Chapter 01

Three Titles in Three Years

Piastri won the Formula Renault Eurocup in 2019, the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2020 and the FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2021 — each at the first attempt, in three consecutive seasons. No other driver has done all three. The F2 title in particular was taken as a rookie against a field of drivers on their second and third years in the category.

Chapter 02

The Year on the Bench

Having won everything available to him, Piastri spent 2022 without a race seat, as Alpine's reserve. The contract dispute that followed was settled by the FIA's Contract Recognition Board in McLaren's favour, and he arrived in Formula 1 for 2023 having not raced competitively for a full season. Two podiums in that rookie year suggested the year out had cost him nothing.

Chapter 03

The 2025 Title Fight

Piastri took his maiden pole in China, then seven victories across the season — including a grand chelem at Zandvoort, where he took pole, led every lap and set the fastest lap. Sixteen podiums and 410 points are both Australian records. The championship went to the final round in Abu Dhabi as a three-way fight; he finished third behind his teammate Lando Norris and Max Verstappen.
