Esteban Ocon: Full Biography

Esteban Ocon is a French racing driver who has competed in Formula One since 2016 for Manor, Force India, Renault, Alpine and Haas. He won the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2021 and has four podium finishes.

Manor He beat Max Verstappen to the FIA Formula 3 European Championship in 2014 and won the GP3 Series the year after. His family sold property and a business to keep him karting, a story he has never been shy about. Manor gave him a Formula One seat from the 2016 Belgian Grand Prix, and Force India kept him for two full seasons, the first of which brought 87 points and eighth in the championship.

Hungary Losing his seat for 2019, he spent the year as Mercedes reserve and came back with Renault in 2020, taking a first podium in the Sakhir Grand Prix. The team became Alpine and in August 2021 at the Hungaroring he led from the restart and stayed ahead of Sebastian Vettel to the flag, the first win for the Renault group since 2008.

Haas Four seasons with Alpine brought podiums at Monaco in 2023 and in Brazil in 2024 but a thinning points return. He moved to Haas for 2025 and finished fifteenth. The 2026 season has been harder still: three points from twelve rounds and eighteenth in the standings.

Three Chapters That Defined Esteban Ocon

Chapter 01

Manor

He came up without the budget that usually accompanies a Formula One career, and his family sold property and a business to keep him in karts. In 2014 he won the FIA Formula 3 European Championship ahead of Max Verstappen, and in 2015 the GP3 Series. Manor put him in a Formula One car from the Belgian Grand Prix in 2016, nine races that scored nothing in a car that could not. Force India signed him for 2017 and he answered with 87 points and eighth in the championship, then spent 2018 in an increasingly fraught partnership with Sergio Pérez before losing the seat altogether.

Chapter 02

Hungary

A year on the sidelines as Mercedes reserve in 2019 could have ended it. Renault took him back for 2020 and he finished second in the Sakhir Grand Prix, his first podium. The team was renamed Alpine, and on 1 August 2021 at the Hungaroring the race was restarted after a first-lap accident and he found himself leading. He stayed there for seventy laps with Sebastian Vettel filling his mirrors, and won, the first victory for the Renault group since 2008 and the only one of his career so far.

Chapter 03

Haas

The Alpine years after the win were uneven. Third at Monaco in 2023 was the first podium for a French driver in the Principality since Olivier Panis in 1996, and second in Brazil in 2024 came in a season that otherwise yielded 23 points. He signed for Haas in 2025 and finished fifteenth on 38 points, the team's lead scorer for much of the year. The 2026 season has been leaner again: twelve rounds, a best finish of ninth at Monaco and three points on the board.
