Johan David Kristoffersson is a Swedish racing driver who has won the FIA World Rallycross Championship eight times — in 2017 and 2018, and then every year from 2020 to 2025. He has taken 48 event wins and 67 podium finishes from 103 starts, and races for his own family team, Kristoffersson Motorsport.

Touring Cars He came up through Swedish touring cars for his father Tommy’s team, and 2012 was the season that made his name: he won five championships in a single year — the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia, the STCC, and the Superstars Series in all three of its categories.

2018 His second world rallycross title was the most dominant season the championship has seen, with eleven wins from twelve events. He also stepped away from rallycross for 2019 to contest the Swedish Rally Championship and the World Touring Car Cup, before returning to win six consecutive titles.

Extreme E He drove for Rosberg X Racing across the electric off-road series, winning the inaugural championship in 2021 with Molly Taylor — decided on wins after finishing level on points with Sébastien Loeb’s X44 team — and a second in 2023.

Chapter 01

Five Titles in a Year

He was born at Arvika in December 1988 and began racing for his father Tommy’s team, which is still his team today. He was fourth in the Swedish Junior Touring Car Championship in 2008 with two wins, moved up to the Swedish Touring Car Championship the following year, and broke through in 2011 with a part-season in the Scandinavian championship that still produced two third places and tenth overall. That year he also lost the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia to Robin Rudholm after a false-start penalty in the decisive weekend, despite winning the second race. In 2012 he answered emphatically, taking five championships in a single season: the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia, the STCC, and the Italian, International and Rookie classifications of the Superstars Series. In 2013 he drove a Porsche Panamera in Superstars and, more consequentially, a family-run Volkswagen Scirocco at a round of the European Rallycross Championship.

Chapter 02

Eleven From Twelve

A part-time World Rallycross campaign in 2014 brought a podium in Belgium; a first full season in 2015 brought a win in Portugal, podiums in Britain, Spain, Turkey and Italy, and third overall. In 2016, after his team merged its Volkswagen effort with Marklund’s, he was runner-up to Mattias Ekström. The 2017 season delivered the first championship, with seven wins from twelve rounds. Then came 2018, the most complete season the championship has seen: eleven wins from twelve events, eleven podiums, and 341 points. He did not defend it in 2019, spending the year instead in the Swedish Rally Championship with a Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 run by his own rallycross team, and in the World Touring Car Cup for Volkswagen alongside Mehdi Bennani and Rob Huff.

Eight

He returned to rallycross in 2020 and won it, and then kept winning it — 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, six titles in succession and eight in all, across Volkswagen, EKS and his own team’s cars, latterly the electric Polo RX1e. Alongside it he drove for Rosberg X Racing in Extreme E from its first season in 2021, taking the inaugural title with the Australian Molly Taylor: they finished level on points with Sébastien Loeb and Cristina Gutiérrez of X44 and took the championship on wins, three to one. He won Extreme E again in 2023, was runner-up in 2022 alongside a second Swedish team-mate, and third in 2024. His world rallycross record stands at 103 starts, 48 wins and 67 podium finishes.
