Gabriel Bortoleto is a Brazilian racing driver who reached Formula One in 2025 with Sauber and now drives for Audi. He won the Formula 3 and Formula 2 championships in consecutive years, each in his first season in the category.

Back to Back He came through Italian Formula 4 and Formula Regional, then won the FIA Formula 3 Championship with Trident in 2023 and the FIA Formula 2 Championship with Invicta Racing in 2024, both at the first attempt. He was a McLaren test driver in the same period, and Sauber signed him for 2025.

He came up through Italian Formula 4 with Prema and two years of Formula Regional, results that suggested a good driver rather than a certainty. What followed was the part that made his name. He won the FIA Formula 3 Championship with Trident in 2023, in his first season in the category, with two wins and six podiums from eighteen races. He then won the FIA Formula 2 Championship with Invicta Racing in 2024, again at the first attempt, with two wins and eight podiums from twenty-eight. Doing that in consecutive years, each time as a newcomer, puts him in company as short as Charles Leclerc and Oscar Piastri.

Chapter 02

Sauber

Sauber took him for 2025 and the seat came with a caveat: the C45 was among the slowest cars on the grid through much of the year. He scored 19 points and finished nineteenth, alongside Nico Hülkenberg, who is also on this roster. The wider significance was national. Brazil had not had a full-time Formula One driver since Felipe Massa stopped in 2017, and a country with three world champions in its history had spent eight seasons watching without one of its own on the grid.

Audi

The team he joined turned into a works operation around him. Sauber became Audi for 2026, with the manufacturer's own power unit, and kept both drivers. Twelve rounds have produced 10 points and fourteenth in the championship, with three top-ten finishes and a best result of sixth, which is the best of his Formula One career. It is a modest return in absolute terms and a reasonable one for a second-year driver in the first season of a new engine formula at a team rebuilding itself.
